PTR Week Wrap Up

PTR International Tennis Symposium
& Championships

The 2013 Symposium was one for the history books. And what an event it was!

The Parade of Nations Flag Ceremony was capped off by Dr. Jim Loehr’s moving tribute for Dennis Van der Meer’s induction to the PTR Hall of Fame in which Luciano Botti made the official presentation.

Unusual spring rains didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits as most presentations easily moved into the ballrooms with pros and coaches being ever-flexible!

Attendees remarked about the high quality of the 40+ presentations from a variety of speakers! Many exciting new faces like David Benzel gave insight into why we do what we love --- and those like Tom Gullikson & Patrick McEnroe showed us how we can do it even better!

More than half of the 43 speakers were new to PTR events or had only spoken once before with PTR. Of the returning speakers, those were the ones you voted as your favorites like Dr. Jim Loehr, Anne Pankhurst, Pat Etcheberry and Dr. Mark Kovacs.

You can order audio recordings of some of the presentations. Visit www.ptrtennis.org/events/ptr-week/Audio-Recordings.pdf. And stay tuned for PTRtennis.TV to see select video presentations from PTR Week.

The PTR Trade Show gave all an opportunity to see the latest products and services available to teaching pros and their facilities. Dr. Jim Loehr autographed his latest book, while the Theratape booth was taping the pros, adidas showed the newest lines and the HEAD booth showed the latest racquets and the attendees got to Demo them. See a list of all the Trade Show booths here.

Forget the Kentucky Derby, we had our own Triple Crown Winner when Troy Robinson of NC snatched all three OPEN division titles. Carolina Blouin was close behind, capturing both Women’s Open titles too.

From PTR Week we will all remember Jim Loehr’s memorable retrospective of Dennis` worldwide contribution to tennis teaching. As Intl. Master Professional, Edvard Raastad said it best when he noted, "Dennis’ Standard Methods were not only mechanics and methodology but also "human touch" and family related values which are still embraced by PTR worldwide.”

Be sure to join the PTR Family at next year’s International Tennis Symposium, Feb. 20 – 23, 2014 on Hilton Head Island.
