Mental and Emotional Skill Development at Different Ages | Tennis in the competitive arena has been described as 90% brain and 10% brawn (Rod Laver). Thus, it is a challenging mental game for anyone, but especially for young people. Tennis coaches work with players between the ages of 5 and 18, during the time when every young player is developing a wide ever changing range of mental and emotional skills. The coaching environment can help or hinder that development. This practical course is intended to help coaches first understand the stages and processes of mental and emotional skill development in young people, and then identify relevant coaching strategies and opportunities for the different skills needed in competition and training.
