Membership Categories

Professional - PTR Professional has successfully completed all five sections of PTR's certification test with a grade of Professional on all sections, has an NTRP of 4.5 or higher (ITN-5), is 21 years of age or older, and has at least three years full time (or five years part time) tennis teaching experience.

Instructor - The Instructor has successfully completed all five sections of PTR's certification test with a grade of Instructor or higher, has an NTRP of 4.0 or higher (ITN-6), is 18 years of age or older, and has at least one year full time (or three years part time) tennis teaching experience.

Associate Instructor - The Associate Instructor has successfully completed all five sections of PTR's certification test with a grade of Associate Instructor or higher on each of the sections, has an NTRP of 4.0 or higher (ITN-6), is 16 years of age or older.

Tester - PTR Testers administer PTR's certification tests for new members or members wishing to upgrade. Testers are PTR members who meet eligibility criteria established by the Board of Directors.

International Master Professional - The International Master Professional distinction has been bestowed on only 12 members. These people have made an internationally-recognized contribution to tennis education in their countries. PTR's Board accepts nominations for this award.

Master Professional - The Master Professional designation recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the game of tennis throughout their careers. Click here for eligibility criteria. The Master Professional designation has been awarded to only 29 members.

Honorary Member - PTR recognizes honorary members for their contribution to the sport. Prospective members can be suggested to the Board by contacting the International Headquarters.

Affiliate Member - Affiliate membership is for those who are active in tennis but who do not wish to become certified teachers. It allows enthusiasts the opportunity to stay involved and current in the tennis teaching industry.

Scholastic Coach Member - This membership is for coaches who work with college, junior college, high school, middle school or other scholastic teams, but who do not wish to become certified.

Recreational Coach Member - Designed for those who teach or assist, mainly in a volunteer capacity, and are not interested in certification. Members must attend a USTA RCW to be eligible.

Touring Coach Member - Reserved for coaches who are employed by ATP or WTA players ranked in the top 100 in the world in singles or top 50 in doubles.

Senior Status - For members over 65 years of age who had been certified, the senior status provides most benefits of full membership at a special discount price.

Corporate Partner - The Corporate Partnership is for any tennis related company. It is designed to allow the company to market special products, services or programs to PTR members by way of special advertising rates, direct mailing programs and exhibit booths.

MAP Rating - Merit Achievement Program ratings allow PTR members to supplement their current rating with 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A levels of professional development. Members who have raised their standard through workshops, courses, conferences, degree programs or other educational activities are recognized for their dedication to improving professionally.

Non-Tested Member - When a prospective member applies for a certified membership with PTR, s/he is considered non-tested until s/he completes the certification exam.
