Hilton Head Island, SC - - Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) presented its annual awards last night during the 2014 PTR International Tennis Symposium. The event, which includes 40-plus on court and classroom presentations for tennis teachers and coaches, a trade show and tournament, is being held February 20 on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Sandor Papp, of Budapest, Hungary, has been named PTR Tester of the Year. Papp has been a PTR Tester for 20 years. He is also a Clinician and serves as PTR Hungary Representative. In 1994, he participated in the first PTR Workshop in Hungary. Papp has been instrumental in ensuring PTR is well established in his country. He organizes PTR workshops, some of which are conducted by Dr. Louie Cap, who makes an annual sojourn to Budapest for PTR. Currently, Papp is the Head Coach at Match Point Tennis Club, and he previously served as President and Technical Director for the Hungarian Tennis Association. In the 70s, Papp played for his country as a member of the Hungarian National Junior Team, winning the Championships in 1976. He went on to play in the National Professional League, before turning his sights to coaching. He has coached several high ranking players, including Tímea Babso (ITF #2, WTA #87) and Réka Jani (ITF #12, WTA #250). Recently, Pap coached the Captain of the Hungarian Boys teams to the European Championships. Papp has participated in ITF Worldwide Coaches Conferences, always representing PTR well.
PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 14,600 members in 121 countries. It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization. PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and servicing tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
