Hilton Head Island, SC - - Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) presented its annual awards this week during the 2014 PTR International Tennis Symposium.  The event, which includes 40-plus on court and classroom presentations for tennis teachers and coaches, a trade show and tournament, is being held on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Wade McGuire, of Brielle, New Jersey, has been named PTR Member of the Year for the State.  This award is presented to a PTR member in the United States who has shown dedication and diligence in promoting and supporting tennis and PTR.  

A PTR Certified Professional for more than a decade, McGuire is the Director of Tennis at The Atlantic Club in Manasquan.  From 2003 to 2008, he was the USTA National Junior Coach.  In 2007, he led the World Cup Junior Fed Team to its first championship win in 17 years.  Serena Williams requested McGuire to serve as her traveling coach.  McGuire was a three time All-American and University of Georgia Team Captain.  An advocate for education and professional development, McGuire co-hosted a PTR Certification Workshop with Tennis Manager and fellow PTR member Nancy Ehrola, to ensure his staff learns to properly teach the game.  

PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 14,600 members in 121 countries.  It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization.  PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and servicing tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
