Hilton Head Island, SC - - Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) presented its annual awards last week during the 2014 PTR International Tennis Symposium. The event, which includes 40-plus on court and classroom presentations for tennis teachers and coaches, a trade show and tournament,was held February 20-23 on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Whitney Hanley, formerly Whitney Paluch, of Rapid City, South Dakota, has been named PTR Member of the Year for the State. This award is presented to a PTR member in the United States who has shown dedication and diligence in promoting and supporting tennis and PTR.
Hanley is a tennis teaching pro at The Tennis Center of the Black Hills. The Rapid City native played for Stevens High School, where she won three State titles at #$1 Singles, two at #1 Doubles, and was part of the team that won four State Championship. An athletic scholarship took her to Cal State Northridge, an NCAA Division I program. She graduated in three years and went to the University of Montana for graduate school.
An advocate of professional development, Hanley has earned Professional ratings in three of PTR education pathways: Adult Development, 10 & Under and 11 to 17. She also hosted to two very well attended PTR Certification Workshops (10 & Under and 11 to 17) so others could learn to teach the game, and was instrumental in recruiting coaches in the state to join PTR and gain certification.
PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 14,600 members in 121 countries. It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization. PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and servicing tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
