Tennis Club - General Manager
The “Cal Club” is located
in the attractive residential area of Pacific Heights in San
Francisco and was established in 1884. It is the oldest private
tennis club west of the Mississippi and the 8th oldest private
tennis club in the United States.
The club is member-owned
with an active nine-person Board of Directors with each director
chairing a specific committee. Facilities include 10 outdoor hard
surface tennis courts (eight lighted), small fitness room,
restaurant and bar, locker rooms, a club lounge, recreation room for
juniors, conference room, and a 50 car parking garage.
The gross dollar volume
is about $2 million with $400,000 in food and beverage revenue.
There are roughly 900 members in various categories with 475 full
Regular Members and 185 Junior Members. The current initiation fee
is $7,500 for regular members and full dues are $1,400 per year with
a $100 per quarter food and beverage minimum. The club has a long
term and competent staff in place that includes 12 full time
employees and 12-14 part-time employees.
The current General
Manager is leaving on good terms after two years. The previous
General Manager was with the Cal Club for 23 years. The preferred
candidate will be an experienced, well- rounded club manager with
private club experience, a successful track record, high energy,
excellent people skills, sound financial management abilities,
expertise in food and beverage, and the ability to raise standards
and exceed member expectations in all areas of club operations. A
strong individual is sought who can provide vision and leadership to
the Board and committees. The GM will supervise all department heads
and report directly to the Club President and Board of Directors.
The club has been updated
and renovated several times over the years, but a current renovation
plan has been in the works since 1998 without achieving successful
consensus by the membership. Club renovation experience and
consensus building are critical traits for the next GM. Although a
professional tennis teaching and/or playing background are not
required, an appreciation for the game and exposure to private club
tennis is preferred. Those candidates who are well rounded assistant
managers looking for a GM opportunity are also encouraged to
apply.
Interested candidates can
e-mail Scott McNett at gsm@sibbaldassociates.com.
Referrals of quality candidates are always welcomed and appreciated.
More information can be viewed at the club website, www.calclubtennis.com.
Compensation: Competitive
salary and bonus program (low to mid 100’s base), based on
experience and qualifications with a full range of
benefits.
