Rob Postma Named PTR Ohio Member of the Year

Hilton Head Island, SC - - Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) will present its annual awards during the PTR International Tennis Symposium.  The event, which includes more than 40 educational presentations for tennis coaches, will be held February 11-15, on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Rob Postma, of Columbus, Ohio, has been named PTR Member of the Year for the State.  This award is presented to a member who has shown dedication and diligence in promoting and supporting tennis and PTR.

Now in his fourth year at the helm of both the Men’s and Women’s Tennis programs at Ohio Wesleyan University, Head Coach Postma’s recent success has him surging up the NCAC coaching ladder.  Last season, he led the Men to 4th place in the NCAC, 13th in the ITA Central Region; their best finish in 30 years.  The women’s team also matched a fifth-place finish in the NCAC from a season prior, the highest in Postma’s brief tenure.

Prior to coaching, Postma spent eight years working in finance while earning his Master’s in Business Administration from Capital in 2009.  He was hired to lead the school’s Men’s Tennis program in 2010.  During his five-year stint with the Crusaders, he led the men to five consecutive post-season appearances and the only regular season conference title in program history.  Postma also coached the Women’s program for two seasons, leading them to conference tournament berths in both.
A native of Tallmadge, Ohio, Postma had a desire to return to the NCAC, where he played at Wittenberg University from 1998-2002.  During his playing career with the Tigers, Postma was a four-year letter winner who led Wittenberg to a national ranking in 2002.  He also was a nationally ranked doubles player that same season.

Coach Postma works hard around the Greater Columbus tennis community.  He was voted to serve on the Board of Directors for The Greater Columbus Tennis Association in 2014, and is the Originator and Director of the GCTA Columbus Clay Court Championships, the largest adult tournament in the Midwest (averages more than 180 players).  He also volunteers teaching clinics held by the Delaware County Tennis Association and is the Director of Tennis at the historic Brookside Golf & Country Club, in Columbus.

PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 16,500 members in 125 countries.  It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization.  PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and serving tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
