Carla McKenzie Named PTR Clinician of the Year

Hilton Head Island, SC - - Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) presented its annual awards this week during the PTR International Tennis Symposium.  The event, which includes more than 40 educational presentations for tennis coaches, is underway on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Carla McKenzie, of Vass, North Carolina, has been named PTR Clinician of the Year.   

From April-September McKenzie is the Director of Tennis at The Shore and Country Club in Norwalk, Connecticut, and the rest of the year she is a Tennis Professional at the storied Pinehurst Resorts in North Carolina.  In her first year at Shore and Country, she created a fun and dynamic program that grew tennis participation by 200%.  Since then, the program has continued to see exponential growth.  

A graduate of Methodist University, McKenzie was a three time All-American, two time National Doubles Champion and still holds the school record for highest percentage of wins in doubles at 93.5%.  She was ranked #1 in the country for three straight years with her doubles partner Elena Blanina.  McKenzie was inducted into the Methodist Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010, as an individual and again in 2016, as a Team of Distinction.  

A Physical Education and Professional Tennis Management major, McKenzie has a Master’s of Business Administration with a concentration in Golf, Tennis and Resort Management.  Also armed with a PTR Master of Tennis - Junior Development, McKenzie is a PTR Clinician in three of the organization’s education pathways: 10 & Under, 11 to 17 and Adult Development.  She is also a Girl’s Tennis Network Clinician and PTR Mentor.  In addition, McKenzie is a USPTA Elite Professional, USRSA Master Racquet Technician, Master of Tennis Performance Specialist (MTPS) by iTPA (International Tennis Performance Association), certified Mental Tough Specialist by the Human Performance Institute, Licensed Cardio Tennis Provider, trained by USTA in Net Generation, USTA Sport Science Level 1, and certified in CPR, First Aid and AED.

PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 16,500 members in 125 countries.  It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization.  PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and serving tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
