Nancy Keeran Named PTR New Mexico Member of the Year
Hilton Head Island, SC - - Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) will present its annual awards during the 2018 PTR International Tennis Symposium. The event, which includes more than 40 educational presentations for tennis coaches, will be held February 13-16, on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Nancy Keeran, of Santa Fe, New Mexico has been named PTR Member of the Year for the State. This award is presented to a PTR member who has shown dedication and diligence in promoting and supporting tennis and PTR. A member since 2014, Keeran is certified in two PTR education pathways.
Keeran grew up in New Jersey, where she learned to play tennis. A trailblazer at her high school, she was the first female player for the boys varsity high school tennis team. She played volleyball in college and made First team All-American.
When Nancy moved to Santa Fe in 1986, she started playing again after a long hiatus. One of the pros at her club asked her to play USTA tennis. At the time, Nancy never heard of the USTA! She has been on a USTA team ever since.
Through her playing in Santa Fe, she met the head tennis instructor for a non-profit organization called First Serve New Mexico. The goal of First Serve, founded in 2003, is not only to teach tennis, but also provide educational tutoring and life skills. It is a year long program, serving 100 students ages 9-18, and completely free to the students.
For the past three years, Keeran has been the Head Tennis Instructor at First Serve NM, where all the instructors are PTR certified.
PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 16,000 members in 125 countries. It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization. PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and serving tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
