Shuo Liu Named Touring Coach of the Year

Hilton Head Island, SC - - Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) will present its annual awards during the PTR International Tennis Symposium.  The event, which includes more than 40 educational presentations for tennis coaches, will be held February 11-15, on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Shuo Liu, of Sammamish, Washington, has been named PTR Touring Coach of the Year.   

Liu has served as the National Coach for China’s National Women’s Team since 2010.  During that time, he has also been the full time coach of WTA player Shuai Zhang.  Under his guidance, she reached her career best WTA Singles ranking of #23 in 2016, and has captured seven singles titles, including the WTA Guangzhou International Women’s Open twice, the WTA $125k Open in Nanjing and in Hawaii, and the ITF $100k International Challenger three times in a row.  Zhang also reached her career best WTA Doubles ranking of #29 and won seven doubles titles and four finalists spots, including two in 2018.  She also reached the semifinals in Doubles and Mixed Doubles at the 2018 US Open.  

Liu coached the China tennis team for the Olympic Games in London (‘12) and later in Rio (‘16).  In 2013, he was China’s Fed Cup Coach.  Somewhere in the middle of all this excitement, Liu took the time to join PTR and earn a Professional rating in the Performance pathway.  Liu had already earned GPTCA A-Level International Coach, and was the first, and at this time remains the only Chinese national to have attained Professional Level A.  He is also and ITF Level 3 Coach.  In 2016, Liu was named a WTA Gold Coach, Coach of the Year by the China Tennis Association.

PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 16,500 members in 125 countries.  It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization.  PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and serving tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
